A dyed-in-the-wool jumps fan like yours truly would not normally be terribly excited by the start of the Flat season, especially as it happens in the middle of all the spring jumping festivals, but there is enough talent set to emerge to get the blood flowing.

Will Aidan O'Brien be able to come close to matching, or even beating, his record-breaking 2017? Can Ger Lyons and Jessica Harrington continue to build on their best Flat campaigns? How will Dermot Weld recover from his poorest campaign in living memory, just one year after achieving the Epsom-Curragh Derby double? And can Pat Smullen regain the jockeys' championship taken from him so memorably by Colin Keane?

To perhaps whet the appetite, here are a few unexposed three-year-olds who will hopefully be worth following.
