Graeme Rodway with an eight-line perm for Monday's Placepot at Lingfield

Credit: Edward Whitaker

Lingfield isn’t a card for confident wagers and the Placepot can provide the best interest bet.

The opening mile handicap (12.10) is the first of several competitive handicaps. Violet’s Lads ran well over course and distance last time and is the main pick, but put Global Style in too.

Mutahamisa is likely to be a warm order in the 7f handicap (12.40) and must be included. However, there aren’t many runners and it may be worth siding with Fayathaan as well.

Five of the eight runners in the 5f handicap (1.10) ran in the same course-and-distance race won by Royal Birth last time. They are closely matched again, but go for Ornate and Lihou.

That hat-trick seeking Anisoptera will probably be favourite for the 2m handicap (1.40) but she needs to improve to win again, so take her on with the consistent Gold Standard.

The experienced runners don’t set a high standard in the 1m2f novice (2.10) and Tamborrada was prominent in the market before being declared a non-runner on his debut at Chelmsford last month. He might be able to make a winning start.

Arabescato was beaten just a head into second by Gold Standard over 1m4f at this course last time and can go one better in the first division of the 1m2f handicap (2.40).
