Graeme Rodway keeps things straightforward with his Kempton Placepot perm

Credit: John Grossick

The testing ground puts me off a Placepot over jumps, so let’s focus on Kempton instead.

Defined sets the standard in the opening 1m3f maiden (4.00) judged on his third at Lingfield last time and should make the places for John Gosden. There’s no need for a back up.

Gosden has a couple of leading contenders in the following 1m3f maiden (4.30) but they will take plenty of units and it might be worth sticking with Green Planet, who has the best form.

The 7f nursery (5.00) is a wide-open race. Dubai Tigress shaped like she would be suited by a return to this trip when second over 6f at Wolverhampton last time and should be included along with Decadent. She has developed a habit of finishing third and that would do here.

In the mile handicap (5.30), Compass Point might struggle switching to Kempton after his success at Southwell last time. Take him on with Zayriyan, who comes into this in top form.

Division one of the mile handicap (6.00) is a competitive race. Prize Fighting appears to be progressing well and could improve again, while Rectory Road is coming back to form.

The second division (6.30) is more straightforward, with Tarroob looking banker material.
