Only six of the 11 runners in the Vertem Futurity have been awarded an official rating and according to the handicapper Turgenev is the worst of them, behind the likes of 18-1 shot Great Scott, 33-1 Kuwait Currency and 40-1 Western Australia.

That hasn’t stopped bookmakers installing him as second favourite for the race, though, as he is trained by John Gosden and won easily last time.
