Gala backers should soon be having a ball

Gala Ball: getting the hang of things and on a workable mark

Gala Ball
Trainer: Philip Hobbs
2nd, Newbury, March 25

An indication of this seven-year-old’s potential is that he was just 7-2 to win a novice chase won by Champion Hurdle hero Buveur D’Air in December. Gala Ball has a single success from five chases, but is getting the hang of things. Wearing blinkers for the first time in this competitive novices’ handicap, he was gaining on the upwardly mobile winner Warriors Tale at the finish. He will go up in the weights but seems on a workable chase mark. Connections may now be tempted to protect his rating for next season as he has an attractive profile for valuable autumn/winter handicaps.
