Four Candles has bright prospects after flicker of promise on debut

Four Candles was more promising on his debut than the result suggests 4.40 Chelmsford

Charlie McBride's gelding was beaten ten lengths into sixth first time up at Wolverhampton last month, but that doesn't tell the whole story as he was stuck behind rivals when attempting to make ground after halfway and his jockey did little more than show him the whip in the home straight when it was clear the leaders had flown.

Although the bare form is ordinary at best, this race doesn't look any stronger and the two who set the standard have already had three runs apiece without success. That suggests this half-brother to two all-weather winners would not have to step up massively for that first outing to be in the shake-up at a track where his trainer has had two juvenile winners from six runners this season.
