Only six of the 22 runners in the Spring Mile are older than five, while in the Lincoln itself no fewer than 14 are aged six or older, so a case can be made that the consolation race features far more unexposed contenders.

However, the roll of honour for both contests is not exactly replete with horses who went on to better things and chances are the trio who missed the Lincoln cut and head today’s Spring Mile market are no better than handicappers, so I’ll take them on.
