Fontwell Placepot tips: Graeme Rodway with a banker in his perm on a tricky card

There won’t be many places on offer at Fontwell, but that means not many units will get through either and sometimes, at fixtures like this, the Placepot can really pay dividends.

The winner will be needed in the opening 2m3½f handicap chase (1.00) and Black Gerry is one of my best bets of the day. However, it’s worth taking out insurance with Beaufort West.

The winner is also needed in the following 2m5½f novice hurdle (1.30) where only three line up. It looks like a match between Whydah Gally and One For The Wall, so include both of them.

The 2m2f handicap chase (2.05) is another tricky contest. Marettimo has been in good form and holds sound place claims. Course-and-distance winner Master Malcolm is the next best.

Royaume Uni might hold a class edge in the following 2m3f handicap hurdle (2.40). He has been keeping stronger company and is one of the best bets of the day. Make him a banker.

There are 11 runners in the 2m1½f maiden hurdle (3.15) and, with three places on offer, this is another good race for a banker. Recent Newbury runner-up Jaramillo rates the best option.

The winner is needed in the 3m2f mares’ novice handicap chase (3.50). Put all four runners; Eleanor Bob, Legends Ryde, Miss Jeanne Moon and The Toojumpa, in and hope for an upset.
