APACHE BLAZE (4.05) didn’t figure in three all-weather novice contests, but she won over this course and distance last time out on her handicap debut, getting up well inside the final furlong.

Robyn Brisland’s filly doesn’t mind a bit of give and a 5lb higher mark shouldn’t stop her.

A wide trip and some interference approaching the final furlong arguably cost the Eve Johnson Houghton-trained LAST ENCHANTMENT (3.00) victory on her comeback at Lingfield four weeks ago and she can gain compensation in the 1m½f handicap.

Brighton

WHITE CHOCOLATE (3.55) didn’t quite get home over 1m4f in decent company at Newmarket on her final start of last season, but she had a solid campaign otherwise.

David Simcock’s filly proved that these undulating tracks with a bit of give underfoot are fine with a couple of decent efforts at Goodwood.

DIOCLETIAN (2.50) can get off the mark for Andrew Balding in the 1m4f handicap. He hinted at ability in three juvenile outings and is bred to be better than this grade.

Yarmouth

Silvestre de Sousa has rides in seven of the eight races and RIPP ORF (3.45) looks his best chance of a winner.

David Elsworth’s gelding missed all of 2017 but has returned with four solid all-weather efforts, including last time out when he chased home the progressive Mordin.

He moves into handicap company at a realistic level and looks sure to be thereabouts if handling the rain-softened surface on his turf debut.

Newcastle

CHARLES FOX (5.55) was comfortably held in his first three starts but took a big step forward when switching to handicap company at Kempton last time out.

Given a patient ride by PJ McDonald, James Fanshawe’s charge came through the pack and was a length clear by the line.

He still looked to be learning and the son of Power’s pedigree also suggests there is more to come, so he should be able to follow up.

Kempton

REGICIDE (7.45) can benefit from stepping up to a new trip in the 2m handicap.

The James Fanshawe inmate took a 1m4f contest from King Kevin at Lingfield in February and, although unable to strike in two subsequent starts, the five-year-old suggested that he would appreciate this sort of stamina test when fifth here last time.

He travelled well over 1m3f that day but lacked a change of gear in the closing stages.
