Morando, who dead-heated with Young Rascal last year, has been in fine form except when taking on Group 1 company. He has a small penalty for his runaway Cumberland Lodge Stakes victory and the last horse to complete that particular double was Shardari in 1985.

Royal Line found a trip just short of two miles a bit too far last week behind Kew Gardens and Stradivarius. Before that he won the September Stakes at Kempton, which last produced the winner in 1996. It’s a big plus that he is at his best at the end of the season and has won on soft and heavy ground.
