It has been a long winter for David Mullins, who broke his back in a fall at Thurles in October, but he can make the long road to recovery worthwhile at Fairyhouse on Saturday. Mullins has his first ride back aboard his father Tom's Barnaviddaun in the opening Connolly's Red Mills Irish EBF Auction Maiden Hurdle, a series the trainer has a fine record in.

Indeed, Mullins secured victory in this race 12 months ago with Chavi Artist and it is probably safe to assume he's had his eye on a repeat bid with Barnaviddaun for some time.
