Sprinter can run big race after Haydock disappointment
No. 5
Rene Mathis
3.00 Leicester
1pt win at 14-1 generallyIt's true Rene Mathis did not show a great deal in the rehashed Ayr Gold Cup at Haydock last time, but he has never run there and trainer Richard Fahey was at pains to point out he thought he might be just short of a run.
He beat Custom Cut on his third outing this season on ground considered too fast for him and that was a good effort off levels against a horse today conceding him 10lb.
A mark of 97 is as low as he has been for more than two years and if he strips fitter he can run a big race.
