During the past two seasons alone, families associated with the Aga Khan have accounted for three European Derby winners - Harzand (out of Hazariya), Almanzor (out of Darkova) and Capri (out of Diamonaka) - while the breeder himself would appear to have much to anticipate from his progressive Dalakhani colt Shakeel, recent winner of the Grand Prix de Paris and Aga Khan-bred top to bottom. The operation is also co-breeder, with Arrowfield Stud, of the South African-trained Whisky Baron, the Sun Met winner currently based in Newmarket with some of the major autumn events in mind.

Nor does the current international reach of the Aga Khan Studs stop there. Far from it, since it is an Aga Khan family that provides the deeper background to American turf star Lady Eli, the Divine Park filly who captured her fifth Grade 1 on Saturday with a game win in the Diana Stakes at Saratoga.
