Well-bred King Of Koji heading for East Stud following retirement
Dual Group 2 winner King Of Koji has been retired and is set for a stallion career at East Stud in Hokkaido, according to reports in Japan.
The Tospo Keiba publication said that the seven-year-old is currently in Northern Shigaraki, Shiga Prefecture, and will move to his new base next week.
King Of Koji is a six-time winner whose biggest successes came in the 2020 Meguro Kinen in Tokyo and last year's American Jockey Club Cup, both over around a mile and a half. His last outing was when down the field at Hanshin on Christmas Eve.
He is by Lord Kanaloa out of the Niarchos family's winning Galileo mare Phaenomena. She is a sister of 1,000 Guineas scorer Nightime, later the dam of Ghaiyyath, Zukova and some lucrative sales returns.
Phaenomena has also produced Harajuku, winner of the Group 3 Prix Cleopatre in 2021.
