Two smart juveniles aiming to continue Clipper Logistics success at York
Western Hero and Gift Of Kings both boast Classic pedigrees
Steve Parkin has already enjoyed notable success at the Ebor meeting through Living In The Past in the Sky Bet Lowther Stakes and the prominent owner is launching a serious assault on Friday’s British Stallion Studs EBF Convivial Maiden Stakes.
With £70,000 on offer, there is no more lucrative option for a newcomer and both of those running under Parkin’s Clipper Logistics banner have the most impressive of pedigrees.
Western Hero is the apparent first choice of the Kevin Ryan-trained pair with Parkin’s retained rider Danny Tudhope aboard.
A €120,000 purchase by the owner’s advisor Joe Foley at the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale, the Excelebration colt is a half-brother to the ill-fated Lady Kaya, who was a fine second to Hermosa in the 1,000 Guineas for trainer Sheila Lavery.
Foley also bought Gift Of Kings for 120,000gns at Tattersalls Book 1 and jockey Jamie Spencer will know plenty about his most famous sibling. Poilin Good’s mare Indian Love Bird has already produced Delegator, who the jockey partnered to land the Craven Stakes in 2009 before chasing home Sea The Stars in the Guineas.
Delegator served only four seasons at Overbury Stud before his death in 2016, while Indian Love Bird was rested for a season before a cover by Golden Horn.
Another expensive Kingman in the line-up is Fox Duty Free, a 280,000gns King Power purchase from Book 2 who finished third at Newbury on his debut for Andrew Balding.
The most notable recent graduate of this race is Rivet, who took the Champagne Stakes and the old Racing Post Trophy in 2016.
