Silverwave takes up covering duty at Haras de la Croix-Sonnet in France
Group 1-winning son of Silver Frost to stand at just €2,500
Silverwave, a Group 1-winning son of Silver Frost, will commence his stallion career at Haras de la Croix-Sonnet in France this year.
The eight-year-old was sold to George Mullins for €105,000 at last month's Arqana December Breeding-Stock Sale, when it was suggested he would stand in Ireland, but his new home is in fact just outside of Deauville where the auction was held.
Silverwave won ten of his 33 starts over six consecutive seasons and stints with four different trainers – Alain Couetil, Pascal Bary, Chad Brown and then Fabrice Vermeulen.
His finest hour came with an impressive victory over Erupt and Siljan's Saga in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud in 2016. He also took the Grand Prix de Chantilly and Prix Foy, and finished runner-up in another Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud and in the Prix Ganay.
Silverwave has strong credentials on pedigree too, as he was bred by the Collet family out of the River Mist mare Miss Bio, making him a three-parts brother to Prix Jean Prat winner Stormy River and a half-brother to stakes-placed Line Drummer and Mary D'Or and to Grade 1-placed hurdler Saphir River.
Silverwave is being managed by Guy Petit on behalf of a syndicate of owners, and he will be available to view on the Route des Etalons, the Normandy studs open house weekend, on January 18-19.
His fee has been set at €2,500, making him the cheapest top-level winner retiring to stud in Europe in 2020.
