Shadwell and Varian set to unleash brother to Group 1 winner in Kempton contest

Mile novice event on Wednesday looks a decent race and well worth a watch

It’s somewhat unseasonal, though our Marking Your Card feature will soon become again a more regular item on the RP Bloodstock landscape and the debut at Kempton on Wednesday of Eshadaa’s full-brother certainly catches the eye.

Moonis, by Muhaarar out of Muhawalah, whose daughter Eshaada won last year’s Group 1 British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes, contests the Unibet Novice Stakes (6.00) over a mile, and it looks a race that is sure to prove informative.

The three-year-old’s older sister also won the Listed Fillies’ Trial Stakes at Newbury last year and was second to Loving Dream in the Ribblesdale, while Muhawalah - a full-sister to Group 1 winner Tamayuz - has also thrown four-time winner Mutamaasik.

The trio of Shadwell homebreds have all gone to Roger Varian, whose colt has Jim Crowley in the plate for his Kempton initiation, for which they have drawn fairly wide in stall ten.

It will be tough. Godolphin’s once-raced winner Parlando, a son of Dubawi, sets a high standard with his Leicester win in October, while there are a few other interesting newcomers in the big field of 14.

Definitely falling into that bracket is Parlando’s Charlie Appleby-trained stablemate Arabian Tale.

Likewise a homebred - something we are growing accustomed to saying where Godolphin is concerned - and likewise by Dubawi, Arabian Tale is out of the Maria’s Mon mare Monday Show, meaning the already-gelded three-year-old is a half-brother to dual Group 2 winner Usherette, and Listed winners Magnetic Charm and Show Day, herself now producing winners for Godolphin, such as the promising Marching Army.
