Regally bred colts among opening maiden contest at Newmarket
Among them are Sea The Stars colt Subastar and Bjorn Nielsen's Magisterial
The British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes (1.00) at Newmarket is a race that has thrown up the likes of Ghaiyyath, Eminent, Telescope and Twice Over, and there are some well-bred newcomers who catch the eye on what is the opening day of the track's Cambridgeshire meeting.
Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum's Sea The Stars colt Subastar is one such individual, being out of a close relative to the mighty Dubawi.
The two-year-old is the eighth foal out of the Seeking The Gold mare Suba, a winning three-part sister to the Darley megastar as well as a half-sister to Lancashire Oaks heroine Emirates Queen, the stakes-winning Princess Nada and two further black type performers in UAE King and Dubai Queen.
Suba is in turn out of Zomaradah, a daughter of Deploy and the Dancing Brave mare Jawaher who won the Italian Oaks and Premio Lydia Tesio for Luca Cumani.
The Bjorn Nielsen homebred Magisterial is another who catches the eye on paper. By Frankel, the colt is out of the unraced Darshaan mare Hoity Toity and is therefore closely related to Lillie Langtry, winner of the Coronation and Matron Stakes as well as the dam of the top-class Minding.
Magisterial can also count the Listed-winning and Group 3-placed Duke Of Marmalade gelding Count Of Limonade and Autumn Miss Stakes runner-up Danilovna, by Dansili, among his immediate family.
Bought back for 300,000gns from Tattersalls Book 1, he is one of two runners for John and Thady Gosden, the other being the once-raced Iffraaj colt Kennet.
A Denford Stud homebred, Kennet is the fourth foal out of the unraced Pivotal mare Timely, a half-sister to French 2,000 Guineas hero Aussie Rules, Intrigued - the dam of St Leger third Michelangelo - and Approach, who has produced Irish Derby and St Leger second Midas Touch plus the popular dual French Group 1 heroine Coronet.
