Kendargent is having his most successful year to date in France and Saturday proved a red-letter day for Haras de Colleville’s stallion as a pair of his greys produced a European Group race double.

Only a top-level success has been elusive for the white-coloured sire so far, whose nine individual Group winners already included his weekend scorers Skalleti and Morando.

It would be folly to write off either making the breakthrough at some point, though.

Skalleti, an €85,000 Arqana purchase as a yearling, only made his debut for Jerome Reynier a year ago and has been beaten just once in ten starts from the minor tracks right up to the Group 2 Qatar Prix Dollar at Longchamp, where he swooped late under Pierre-Charles Boudot.

Morando, who has fallen short in Group 1 company, is a formidable performer on soft ground as advertised by an eight-length win in the Ormonde Stakes at Chester.

Bought in-training at Tattersalls for 290,000gns two years ago and switched to King Power Racing ownership, he was back on the mark by six lengths as he strode away in the Property Raceday Targets £3M Cumberland Lodge Stakes at Ascot.

Kendargent, who is now 16, was Group 1-placed for Colleville’s Guy Pariente and is flying high in France, where he was standing for €17,000 this year.

He has already exceeded his best annual domestic total by reaching 90 winners for 2019 and tops the sire standings in that category with many weeks still remaining.
