Arod, who claimed the Group 2 Summer Mile at Ascot through a long and globe-trotting career, is on his travels again after being recruited to stand at stud in southern India.

Originally a promising colt for Peter Chapple-Hyam, the son of Teofilo was second in the Dante and fourth behind Australia in the 2014 Investec Derby.

His most productive period came during the following year, when he also won the Diomed Stakes at Epsom and placed in both the Lockinge and the Sussex Stakes, beaten only half a length by Solow on that occasion.

Arod disappointed behind Winx in that year’s Cox Plate and later returned to Australia for a stint with Chris Waller, placing in several Group events.

He returned to Newmarket in 2017 for David Simcock, landing last year’s Listed Foundation Stakes at Windsor. Although competing for the majority of his career in the Qatar Racing colours, he made his final appearances, including two at this year’s Dubai World Cup, Carnival in the colours of the Two Towers Partnership having been sold for 145,000gns at the Tattersalls July horses-in-training event.

Arod heads to Sans Craintes Stud in Tamil Nadu, home to the likes of Akeed Champion, Lucifer Sam, Tazahum and Lord Admiral to begin covering in 2020.

Gaurav Rampal, who brokered the deal, said: "The deal was done along with Richard Venn Bloodstock. We had him on our radar for a while and we bid for him in the horses-in-training sales last year as well. We have been closely following him since then and deal was recently privately done."

Rampal added that Arod had settled in well at Sans Craintes and, asked what it was about him that had appealed to the stud, replied: "His race record, especially his Group 1 performances, durability and Timeform rating.

"He is one of the highest rated ever to come to India. His performances over eight furlongs and ten furlongs were very attractive for us. His Summer Mile and Diomed wins were very, very impressive and so was the Epsom Derby fourth. His high cruising speed and turn of foot had us sold.

"Teofilo is one of Galileo’s most successful sons at stud and next two dams are by excellent broodmare sires in Rahy and Nureyev."
