L'Homme Presse is the main man for Diamond Boy

Unbeaten novice chaser L'Homme Presse became the first Grade 1 winner for his sire Diamond Boy with his stroll to victory in the Scilly Isles Novices' Chase at Sandown.

The Venetia Williams-trained seven-year-old established himself as one of the most exciting young chasers in Britain when winning the Dipper at Cheltenham on New Year's Day, and his Sandown success, which was also a first at the highest level for jockey Charlie Deutsch, was achieved with consummate ease.

Bred in France, where Diamond Boy began his stud career, by Bernard Camp, L'Homme Presse is the third foal out of the winning hurdler and chaser Romance Turgot, by Bateau Rouge. He was offered for sale as a yearling at the Arqana Autumn 2016 Sale by Haras du Dorat but failed to find a buyer at €22,000.

Under his fourth dam are the Group 1 sprint-winning siblings Tangerine Trees and Alpha Delphini.

Sire Diamond Boy moved to the O'Keeffe family's Kilbarry Lodge Stud after beginning his stallion career at the farm where he was bred; Haras de la Croix Sonnet. He was a Listed winner on the Flat in France for Francois Doumen and is a Mansonnien brother to Golden Silver, who won three Grade 1 chases at around two miles for Willie Mullins.

Sandown result and replay

Diamond Boy moved to Waterford for the 2018 breeding season and he has 143 three-year-olds from that first Irish crop to come onto the store sale market this summer.

His early crops in France were much smaller in number. With his oldest runners now nine, he is the sire of Kingwell Hurdle winner Grand Sancy, who has also been Grade 1-placed over hurdles and fences, and Cat Tiger, winner of the Grade 3 Prix The Fellow from his second crop, while L'Homme Presse hails from his third. Diamond Boy is also the sire of Listed winner Otchoa Rouge.

When he moved to Kilbarry Lodge he stood for an advertised fee of €5,000, which was increased to €6,000 for 2019, but he has been listed as private for the last three years.
