Kodiac filly Fairyland adds Group 1 laurels in Cheveley Park Stakes

Kodiac filly Fairyland ran out a brilliant winner of the Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday, a race also contested by the two highest-rated juvenile fillies in Europe on Racing Post Ratings so far this season in Pretty Pollyanna and Signora Cabello.

Having broken smartly from the stalls, Donnacha O'Brien kept Fairyland in a good position throughout and stayed on best in a three-way finish, with Society Rock filly The Mackem Bullet a neck away in second, and Scat Daddy's daughter So Perfect a half length back in third.

Fairyland led home a one-two for fillies bred by Tally-Ho Stud, with the late Society Rock so very nearly recording a posthumous Group 1 winner.

The winner also joined her paternal half-sister Tiggy Wiggy on the roll of honour, with Best Solution, a dual Group 1 winner over middle distances, also flying the flag for Kodiac this year.

Fairyland holds an intriguing entry in the Fillies' Mile, with her half-sister Now Or Never, who is by another Danehill-line sire in Bushranger, having finished third in the Irish 1,000 Guineas and fourth in the Coronation Stakes over the same trip.

Their only other sibling to race is the three-time winning sprinter Atletico, a son of Kodiac trained by Roger Varian.

That trio are out of the Pivotal mare Queenofthefairies, who was unraced but is a half-sister to Dream Ahead, the champion sprinter in Europe in 2011 having won the Haydock Sprint Cup, July Cup and Prix de la Foret that same season.

Dream Ahead has also made his mark at stud, with the Haras de Grandcamp resident having sired Group 1-winning miler and sire Al Wukair and this year's Vintage Stakes scorer Dark Vision.

Their dam is the Flying Childers Stakes heroine Land Of Dreams, the best performer out of the Green Desert mare Sahara Star, having won the Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood.

Sahara Star is also the granddam of Princess Noor, who was second to Vorda in the 2013 Cheveley Park Stakes, and third dam of Zihba, who won this year's Amethyst Stakes over a mile at Leopardstown.

At 925,000gns, Fairyland was the most expensive Kodiac yearling sold at public auction when acquired by the Magnier-Mayfair-Peter and Ross Doyle Bloodstock axis at last year's Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.

Updates for Tattersalls' flagship auction continue to come thick and fast, with Fairyland's dam Queenofthefairies having a Muhaarar filly set to be offered as lot 58 on the opening day of Book 1 this year.

Fairyland provided another feather in the cap for Pivotal as a broodmare sire - who supplied a second Group 1-winning juvenile this campaign in Phoenix Stakes scorer Advertise, a son of Showcasing.
