Seahenge the latest stakes winner off Scat Daddy conveyor belt

Scat Daddy's 24 runners in Britain and Ireland this year would not fill all the starting berths for the Cambridgeshire at Newmarket in two weeks' time. However, a remarkable 14 of them have found their way into the winner's enclosure at a 59 per cent clip and, perhaps even more impressively, six have managed to win at stakes level this season.

That is the same number of stakes winners supplied by Classic sires Dansili and Sea The Stars this year - who have had 84 and 75 runners respectively.

Seahenge became the latest Scat Daddy stakes winner on Saturday, when toasting success in the 7f Group 2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster. While that might not be enough to elevate him onto the same pedestal as Group 1-winning pair Caravaggio and Lady Aurelia, the win does mark him out as a colt with a future at stud.

Trained by Aidan O'Brien for the Coolmore partners, Seahenge's late charge to deny New Approach colt Hey Gaman also went some way to justifying the six-figure price tag of his year-younger half-brother by Exchange Rate, who was bought by John P Fort for $150,000 at Keeneland on Tuesday.

Bred by K and G Stables, Seahenge was a $750,000 yearling purchase for his current connections at the same sale last year, and is one of three winners out of the winning Not For Love mare Fools In Love, a sister to the useful DC Dancer and half-sister to the dual Grade 2 winner International Star.

Seahenge holds a number of intriguing entries, not least the Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket in mid-October.
