Kodiac makes it a sensational 60 two-year-old winners in 2017

Tally-Ho Stud flagbearer Kodiac, who broke Sunday Silence's world record for number of two-year-old winners in a single crop when he made it 52 in early November, brought that figure to an even 60 when daughter Hello Brigette scored in a six-furlong novice stakes at Wolverhampton on Wednesday.

Hello Brigette, who was breaking her maiden on her third start, is a fitting horse to provide such a landmark for her sire on several levels.

First, she displayed the speed and some of the class that Kodiac's stock have become famous for, making a smart break from the stalls, hitting the front four furlongs from home and stretching clear to win by four lengths.

Second, she carries the silks of Tally-Ho Stud owner Tony O'Callaghan, who has masterminded the stallion career of Kodiac, the Danehill half-brother to Invincible Spirit who stood for as little as €4,000 in his early years at stud but has worked his way up to a €50,000 fee in 2018 after supplying a steady stream of early and speedy progeny such as Ardad, Besharah and Tiggy Wiggy.

Hello Brigette is trained by Michael O'Callaghan for Tally-Ho Stud, who pinhooked her as a foal at Goffs for €33,000 and presented her for sale at this year's Goresbridge Breeze-up Sale, where she was knocked down to Blandford Bloodstock for €80,000.

She was bred by Jack Lynch out of the unraced College Chapel mare Fern Tycoon, a half-sister to dual Group 2 winner and Golden Jubilee Stakes second Balthazaar's Gift.

Highlights of Kodiac's record-breaking two-year-old crop have been the Group 3 winners Ellthea and Nebo, as well as Listed scorers Brother Bear and Izzy Bizu, plus Cheveley Park Stakes third Madeline.

The sire also demonstrated, though, that he is not purely a one-dimensional speed sire in 2017 by providing the first and third home in the Group 3 St Simon Stakes over 12 furlongs in October, Best Solution and Danehill Kodiac. Furthermore, Danehill Kodiac had taken the Cumberland Lodge Stakes, run at the same class and over the same distance, three weeks earlier.

Kodiac might not be done with 60 winners from this year's crop of juveniles, either. There are four days of 2017 left to go and on Friday he is set to be represented by an intriguing newcomer from Hugo Palmer's stable in the seven-furlong novice stakes at Lingfield – the suitably named Breaking Records.
