Jolly good Show! Ayr winner looks a name to note for the future

Anyone betting in the 7f novice stakes at Ayr on Monday by pedigree alone will have been rewarded by a 7-1 winner in the shape of New Show.

In an ordinary contest comprising only five runners the newcomer, a colt by New Approach out of Falmouth Stakes heroine Music Show, overcame greenness and a slow start to sail past his rivals and win comfortably by a length.

New Show is trained by Kevin Ryan for his owner-breeder Jaber Abdullah, whose silks Music Show carried to victory in five races including the Group 2 Rockfel Stakes and Group 3 Nell Gwyn Stakes as well as the Falmouth at the top level.

Music Show, a daughter of Noverre, was bought by pinhooker John Cullinane as a yearling at Tattersalls Ireland for just €2,000 and resold to Gill Richardson for €16,000 at the Goresbridge Breeze-up Sale as a two-year-old.

Trained by Mick Channon, she also finished second to Goldikova in the Prix Rothschild, third to Lillie Langtry in the Matron Stakes and filled the same place behind Bethrah in the Irish 1,000 Guineas.

New Show is the second foal out of Music Show after the placed Dubawi filly Show Me The Music. The mare also has a yearling Shamardal colt, has no foal as she was barren to Dark Angel, and was covered by Iffraaj this year.

New Show is one of the two-year-olds conceived in the season after champion two-year-old and Derby hero New Approach had supplied Classic winners Dawn Approach and Talent and Derby second Libertarian among his first crop.

New Approach's current juveniles – bred off a career-high fee of £80,000 at Dalham Hall Stud – also include the impressive winners Cascadian and Hey Gaman as well as Listed Chesham Stakes third Masar.

New Approach has been relatively quiet since the explosive start to his stallion career but New Show looks capable of making the step up to stakes company and could help put his sire's name back up in lights.
