Intello gets his first Group winner in the Prix de Guiche

Cheveley Park Stud sophomore sire Intello supplied his first Pattern winner when son Intellogent showed a smart turn of foot to win the Group 3 Prix de Guiche by a head on Monday.

Intellogent has always been a fine flagbearer for his father, as he hit the headlines when sold to Amanda Skiffington on behalf of owner Fiona Carmichael for €320,000 at the Arqana August Yearling Sale in 2016.

The colt who jointly topped Book 1 of that year's Tattersalls October Yearling Sale – Godolphin's 2,600,000gns Dubawi colt Glorious Journey – finished a close third to Intellogent in the race, a key trial for the Prix du Jockey Club won by the likes of Almanzor and Lawman in recent years.

Patascoy, a son of Wootton Bassett who was a relative bargain having been sourced for €40,000 at the Arqana V2 Sale, finished between the two more expensive colts in second.

Intellogent, trained by Fabrice Chappet, won a Saint-Cloud maiden last year and had finished placed in the Listed Prix Omnium II and a Longchamp conditions race earlier this year.

He was bred by Ecurie des Monceaux out of the winning Kheleyf mare Nuit Polaire, making him a half-brother to the Listed-placed Lightupthenight.

Nuit Polaire is a half-sister to Italian Oaks winner Night Of Magic, who has produced dual German Group 1 winner Nightflower, and to Listed scorer Night Serenade and top hurdler Melon.

She is also a half-sister to the dam of the German Derby winner Nutan and his Group 1-winning half-sister Nymphea.

Further back it is the family of German Classic-winning siblings Next Desert and Next Gina, and also Hong Kong superstar Pakistan Star.

Nuit Polaire also has a two-year-old colt by Excelebration, sold to Mark Johnston for €30,000 at Arqana last year, and a Gleneagles yearling filly.

Intello, an impeccably bred son of Galileo, showed tremendous versatility in his Classic season for trainer Andre Fabre and owner-breeders the Wertheimer brothers.

After finishing a close and unlucky-in-running third in the Poule d'Essai des Poulains he was an impressive winner of the Prix du Jockey Club, and he went on to drop back to a mile to win the Prix Messidor and run third in the Prix Jacques le Marois, and to stretch to 12 furlongs to finish third behind Treve in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

Intello spent his first two seasons as a stallion at Cheveley Park Stud before decamping to Haras du Quesnay in Normandy for two years, but he returned to Newmarket this year where he is standing at £20,000.

Besides Intellogent, he is also responsible for Maisons-Laffitte Listed scorer Sonjeu and the stakes placed Highbrow, Intello Kiss and Louis D'Or.

Without black type yet but looking well capable of securing it are Racing Post Trophy fifth Gabr, Godolphin's unbeaten dual winner Nordic Lights and five-length Newbury maiden scorer Young Rascal.
