A big talent unearthed as Found's brother Cook gets off the mark
Two-year-old colt a 20th juvenile winner in 2017 for Galileo
Two-year-old colt James Cook, a brother to the great Found, navigated his way to victory at Leopardstown on Sunday to become the fifth winner from as many runners for his dam, the Lockinge Stakes heroine Red Evie.
The son of Galileo was soon making the running under Seamie Heffernan, and when asked for his effort early in the straight a taking turn of foot quickly stamped his authority over his ten rivals. Latrobe, a newcomer by Camelot, tried hard to make a race of it late on, but James Cook had all moves covered to land the spoils by half a length.
The colt is a brother to four winners, most notably the outstanding Found, who landed three Group/Grade 1s - including the Arc - and finished out of the frame on just one of her 21 starts. Found was retired from racing after a third-place finish in the 2016 Breeders' Cup Turf, and was reportedly covered by War Front earlier this year.
James Cook's other siblings include C L Weld Park Stakes winner Magical Dream and fellow Group 3 scorer Best In The World.
Since delivering Sunday's winner Red Evie, a daughter of Intikhab who also landed the Group 1 Matron Stakes during her 15-race career, has also produced a filly by Galileo - now a yearling - and was again covered by the Coolmore colossus earlier this year.
Sunday's success also provided Galileo with his 20th European juvenile winner of the campaign, a result that pushes him even further clear at the head of the two-year-old sires' table by prize-money.
