Group 1 winner Aclaim added to burgeoning National Stud roster

Group 1 winner Aclaim is the latest addition to the National Stud's stallion roster for 2018, with former Godolphin chief executive John Ferguson to manage the son of Acclamation, who will be offered to breeders at a fee of £12,500.

Aclaim - whose stud career will also be overseen by Mark McStay and stud manager Tim Lane - was trained by Martyn Meade and won his sole start at two, before earning a Racing Post Rating (RPR) of 115 for his win the Group 2 Challenge Stakes at Newmarket at three, when he defeated Cheveley Park Stakes heroine Lumiere by a length.

He continued his upward trajectory into his four-year-old season, running to a career-high RPR of 119 - a pound higher mark than his own sire achieved - when second in this year's Prix Maurice de Gheest. He followed up that effort with success in the Group 2 Park Stakes before making his Group 1 breakthrough on what proved his final start in the Prix de la Foret over 7f on Arc weekend.

"Aclaim was a joy to have in the yard," said Meade. "He's a handsome horse, and not just deeply talented but extremely genuine. I'd look at him and feel such pride and pleasure, and his Group 1 win at Chantilly – watched by all the team – was one of great joy."

A Dermot Farrington and Canning Downs homebred, the son of Acclamation is the first foal of Aris, a stakes-placed juvenile who beat subsequent Group 1 winner Gordon Lord Byron when breaking her maiden. Her half-sister Again won the Irish 1,000 Guineas and Moyglare Stud Stakes, while Aclaim's granddam is a half-sister to Arc hero and leading sire Montjeu.

This is also the immediate family of Prix de l'Abbaye and King's Stand winner Goldream and 2,000 Guineas hero Galileo Gold.

"Having Aclaim on the roster is marvellous news," said the Duke of Roxburghe, who takes over as chairman of the National Stud in January. "The National Stud is delighted to be standing a fast young stallion with Classic bloodlines and a bona fide chance of being a big success."

The announcement adds further lustre to the growing force of the Acclamation sire line that has seen so much success through the likes of sire sons Dark Angel and Equiano.

The news also follows hot on the heels of the National Stud adding reverse shuttlers Spill The Beans and Tivaci to its roster for the coming breeding season.
