Buyers from all over Europe flocked to Baden Baden this weekend for the October Sales and Racing Festival, which concluded on Sunday with Germany's most important juvenile fillies' contest, the Group 3 Preis der Winterkonigin.

The headline trade took place on the opening day on Friday, which was topped by a colt from the first crop of Kodiac's Caulfield Cup winning son Best Solution, who sold to Italian trainer Bruno Grizzetti for €120,000.

Grizzetti was among buyers from 18 different countries who purchased horses at the mixed sale of yearlings, horses-in-training and potential breeding stock.

Saturday's trade was more low-key than the opening session, and was topped by a pair of horses who made €26,000 apiece.

First of them through the ring was Haras de Grandcamp's filly by their own stallion, the European champion two-year-old Dabirsim, who was purchased by trainer Mario Hofer. A striking liver chestnut, she hails from a developing French family.

She is the first foal out of Damkena, a placed Kendargent full-sister to the Group 3 Prix Eclipse winner and Group 1 Prix de la Foret third Kendam who is the mother of Group 3 and Listed winner Kenway. Damkena is also a full-sister to the Listed Prix Roland de Chambure winner Kenfreeze.

That price was matched by Crispin de Moubray who bought Listed winner and German 1,000 Guineas third Go Rose from the draft of Gestut Brummerhof. She was offered in foal to Group 3 winner Waldpfad who was third in the Sprint Cup at Haydock. Her first foal is a colt by the Haydock Sprint Cup third by Shamardal and out of a half-sister to Deutsches Derby winner Waldpark and Waldmark, dam of Masked Marvel and second dam of Waldgeist.

Go Rose is a daughter of leading German stallion Soldier Hollow, the broodmare sire of this season's Deutsches Derby and Grosser Dallmayr Preis - Bayerisches Zuchtrennen winner Sammarco.

Over the two days of trade, a total of 338 horses were offered with 235 sold for a clearance rate of 69.5 per cent. Total turnover for the sale was €2,340,000 with the average coming in at €10,002.

Kazakhstani outfit Racing Team were the busiest buyers over the course of the sale, purchasing a total of 18 horses - 16 yearlings, a two-year-old filly and the eight-year-old Holy Roman Emperor mare Zerawiyna.

Holger Faust's HFTB Racing Agency was the biggest spender, purchasing a total of four horses for €125,000.
