Horses in training sales tend to be a veritable smorgasbord, with offerings to satisfy everyone. This week's Tattersalls version serves up a variety to suit all tastes and even with the withdrawal of Saturday's Group 1 Criterium de Saint Cloud winner Dubai Mile, there is more than enough to whet the appetite and suit all budgets.

The experts gave an insightinto how they go about drawing up their lists of potential purchases and here are a few horses who may make a shortlist or two over the coming days.

Lot 279 Legend Of Xanadu

2yo colt, Sixties Icon - Tanojin (Thousand Words)

West Ilsey Stables

While one of Saturday's juvenile black type winners won't be making an appearance at Park Paddocks this week, another will.

Legend Of Xanadu was having the 13th start of a very busy season in the Listed Doncaster Stakes but didn't show any signs of tiredness to defeat a trio of Irish raiders including the Group 2 Futurity Stakes winner Aesop's Fables (by No Nay Never) and Wodao, Donnacha O'Brien's Listed Tipperary Stakes winner.

That was the third career victory for the son of Sixties Icon who was also third in the Listed Rose Bowl Stakes at Newbury and out of a sibling to Audacia, who won the Listed Pipalong Stakes.

Lot 400 Beachley

2yo filly, Zoustar - Beach Belle (Invincible Spirit)

Jamie Railton Sales

Dubai Mile may not be for sale this week but this filly out of his Listed-winning half-sister certainly is.

Beachley is a daughter of Beach Belle, who was also fourth in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes at two and is an Invincible Spirit half-sister to Ahmad Al Shaikh's hero of the hour. Beach Belle is the dam of two winners from three runners, headed by recent Australian Group 2 Shannon Stakes winner Surf Dancer, a son of Lope De Vega.

Beach Belle is also closely-related to the dual Listed winner Naadirr by Oasis Dream and they are out of the Listed Dance Design Stakes Beach Bunny. The High Chaparral mare was also second in the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes in the colours of her owner-breeder Lady Chryss O'Reilly.

Beach Bunny is out of Lady Hawai, an unraced half-sister to 1,000 Guineas winner Miss France and their dam is Miss Tahiti, who won the Prix Marcel Boussac and was placed in three further Group 1 contests including the Prix de Diane.

Beachley was bred in partnership by Lady O'Reilly's Skymarc Farm, who also bred Dubai Mile, and Qatar Racing.

Like Dubai Mile she is from the first crop of a Tweenhills' stallion, in this case Zoustar, who made a sensational start to his stud career in Australia and was the first member of this year's class of European first season sires to sire a Group 1 winner; the Cheveley Park Stakes heroine Lezoo.

Lot 519 Tagline

2yo filly, Havana Grey - Terse (Dansili)

Rod Millman, on behalf of Whitsbury Manor Stud

If Pantone were announcing their colour of the year, in racing it would have to be a particular shade of grey for 2022 - Havana Grey.

Whitsbury Manor Stud's first season sire has been little short of stunning with five stakes winners and 13 stakes performers in his first crop and this filly represents an opportunity to purchase one of those.

Bred by Whitsbury Manor, and unable to find a buyer at just 14,000gns as a yearling she will surely fetch multiples of that on Tuesday as a Group 3-placed filly by the hottest young sire in Britain.

Successful over six furlongs on her second start, she then went straight into stakes company and was third to the aforementioned Lezoo in the Listed Empress Stakes at Newmarket. She was fourth behind Mawj and Lezoo in the Group 2 Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes and was third when stepped up to seven furlongs for the Group 3 Dick Poole Stakes at Salisbury.

With a RPR of 96, she is a classy filly and has a pacey family to back her up. Her dam Terse has a perfect record with her first three runners and is a Dansili half-sister to Brevity, who won the Dick Poole, and to Grade 1 Garden City Stakes third Concise.

Lot 643 Eddie's Boy

2yo colt, Havana Grey - Spontaneity (Holy Roman Emperor)

The Castlebridge Consignment

Another opportunity to purchase one of Havana Grey's stars; this Group 3 winner is the highest-rated juvenile by the Flying Five Stakes winner in training.

Middleham Park Racing's colt out of a half-sister to Swiss Lake made a winning debut over five furlongs back in April and has been on the go ever since, showing no signs of stopping. His tenth start came at the beginning of this month when he was second to Charyn from the Roger Varian yard in the Group 2 Criterium de Maisons-Lafitte. That performance came on the back of his victory in the Group 3 Prix Eclipse at Chantilly for Archie Watson.

Bred by Crossfields Bloodstock and a 45,000gns purchase as a yearling, his wins have included success in the Weatherbys Super Sprint and he was also third in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot and in the Tattersalls Somerville Auction Stakes.

He is one of four winners out of Spontaneity, who is a half-sister to the remarkable broodmare Swiss Lake. Lordship Stud's Listed Lansdown and St Hugh's Stakes winner by Indian Ridge is the dam of 12 winners from 12 runners headed by two Group winners, a Listed winner and a Group 2-placed performer.

Lot 1094 Badge

3yo colt, Galileo - Joyeuse (Oasis Dream)

Juddmonte

One of the best-bred horses in the entire catalogue, if this colt could find it within himself to earn a Group win, it's easy enough to envisage him finding a berth at stud.

He is a three-parts brother to none other than Frankel, whose exploits need no recounting here, and to the triple Group 1 winner Noble Mission who sired Grade 1 Travers Stakes and Jockey Club Gold Cup winner as well as Kentucky Derby runner-up Code Of Honor from his time at stud in Kentucky.

His dam Joyeuse won the Listed Cecil Frail and Dick Poole Stakes and is the dam of Maximal, who was second in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes at Flemington earlier this month. A full-brother to Badge, he was also second in the Group 1 Doomben Cup back in May, and it would be no surprise if Badge were to join Maximal in Australia to continue his racing career.

Joyeuse, who is a full-sister to Haras de Toury sire Morpheus, is also the dam of the Coronation Stakes third Jubiloso by Shamardal and the Listed-placed Jovial, a daughter of Dubawi.

Lot 1102 Parlour Palm

2yo filly, Bated Breath - Palmette (Oasis Dream)

Juddmonte

The record price for this sale is the 1,000,000gns brought by Aljazzi at the 2018 renewal, when the Group 2 winner was purchased as a broodmare prospect by Newsells Park Stud.

Not for a minute do we suggest that Parlour Palm, an unraced daughter of Bated Breath will bring a similar figure, but the idea behind Aljazzi's entry in the Horses In Training Sale, rather than wait for the later December Mares Sale, was to stand out from the crowd.

This filly, although unraced, could be a similar prospect for those who are wishing to bolster their broodmare bands as there will be the predictable feeding frenzy around the Juddmonte draft of fillies and mares at Tattersalls next month.

Parlour Palm comes from an instantly recognisable Juddmonte family; her dam Palmette is an Oasis Dream full-sister to the Gimcrack winner and Middle Park Stakes third Showcasing, who is one of the best stallions at stud in Britain. Palmette is also a full-sister to Group 3 Pavilion Stakes second Tendu and to Bouvardia, second in the Listed Flying Fillies' Stakes.

In addition to these siblings, Palmette is a half-sister to Camacho, sire of Poule d'Essai des Pouliches winner Teppal, and to Listed Gillies Stakes winner Vesela (by Frankel).

Second dam Arabesque won the Flying Fillies' Stakes and is a Zafonic half-sister to triple Australian Group 1 winner Foreteller, out of the Cheveley Park Stakes winner Prophecy.
