Recent Boulta point-to-point winner Grandero Bello is joining the training partnership of Eddie and Patrick Harty after topping the ThoroughBid Christmas Sale at £50,000.

A Great Pretender gelding who has the two-mile champion Azertyuiop under his third dam, wildcard entry Grandero Bello had struck at the third attempt for Donnchadh Doyle and Rob James with a six-length victory.

Eddie Harty, a Cheltenham Festival-winning trainer from the family dynasty, broke new ground in May when announcing that he and son Patrick, a former assistant with Nicky Henderson, would become the first joint training partnership in Ireland.

Eleven of the 19 horses to have been offered online on Sunday evening found new homes for turnover of £197,500.

They were a mixture of racing and breeding stock with eight-year-old Passing Glance mare Diamond Gait, making £28,000 to Great Budworth Stud. Offered by owner Norman Carter, she has bumper black type and is a four-time winner.

Kim Bailey bought four-year-old ex-pointer Tullywest for £34,000 while owner John Reddington claimed recent Kildorrery winner Desertmore House for £23,500, who is set to join Martin Brassell.

ThoroughBid is offering offering up to £15,000 (£5,000 for Irish point graduates and an extra £10,000 for British) in bonuses for pointers sold via the platform who go on to win first time out under rules.

James Richardson, CEO of ThoroughBid, said: “Each sale has been a bit different and this time we’re particularly pleased to have sold some nice pointers. We announced the new Point2Rules bonus at the back end of November and that’s certainly attracted some promising types. Again, the feedback from those bidding last night has been hugely positive and we’re delighted to have closed out the year on a high.

“Having only kicked off with our first auction in September, we’ve now completed four and have a fifth slated for January 16 – the All-Weather Sale. Selling Belfast Banter was an obvious highlight for us, while having completed sales for a variety of top trainers, studs and point-to-point yards, we’re really pleased with how things have begun.”
