In the colours of the Queen, homebred Naval College was fittingly providing his royal owner-breeder with another appropriate landmark as he was giving his sire Dartmouth a first winner.

Twice placed on his most recent two starts for Sir Michael Stoute, Naval College pulled nearly four lengths clear of runner-up Treble Joy to provide his dam, the winning Selkirk mare Sequence, with her second winner.

Appropriately it was also a fine first for his sire from only two runners so far.

Dartmouth had been a talented and hardy flagbearer in the royal silks when trained by Stoute, with his eight wins from 20 starts including a battling success in the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes in 2016 and the following year's Group 2 Yorkshire Cup.

The son of Dubawi, who was placed at the top level in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes and the Canadian International Stakes as well as winning the Group 3 John Porter and Ormonde Stakes, subsequently retired to Shade Oak Stud in Shropshire.

He was bred by Darley and is out of the Group 3-winning Galileo mare Galatee, making him a brother to Grand Prix de Chantilly and Prix du Conseil de Paris winner Manatee (by Monsun) and Listed winner Gaterie (Dubai Destination).

Naval College has an equally fine distaff page as his dam is a half-sister to none other than the dual Derby hero and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Sinndar, who also won the National Stakes at two for good measure for John Oxx and the Aga Khan. The pair are also related to Simawa, a stakes performer and the dam of four black type performers including Sinawann.

Dartmouth, who has finished his fifth season at Shade Oak for a fee of £2,500, is from the famed Dubawi - Galileo nick which has also produced world champion Ghaiyyath and 2,000 Guineas winner and exciting young sire Night Of Thunder.
