First stakes winner for Recorder as Queen proves too hot at Saint-Cloud
There were also stakes wins for sons of Authorized and Frankel
Sumbe's Montfort et Preaux may have sadly lost their stalwart in Le Havre, but in second-season sire Recorder the French stud may have another stallion ready to make his mark, siring his first stakes winner of the new season at Saint-Cloud in Hot Queen.
The three-year-old, who is owned by Finn Blichfeldt and bred through his AB Ascot, was one of a number of promising first-crop two-year-old winners for her sire last year, while she was also stakes-placed when a narrow second in the Prix Haras de Bouquetot last September.
Hot Queen came home half a length in front of another stakes winner in The Grey Gatsby filly Indian Wish in the Prix la Camargo, a race that was won last year by subsequent Poule d'Essai des Pouliches fourth and Prix de Flore scorer Sweet Lady.
Trained by Pia and Joakim Brandt, Hot Queen is the eighth foal out of the winning and Listed-placed Lomitas mare Hot Fudge, whose wins included the Danish Oaks.
Her Listed-winning daughter is a half-sister to four winners including dual scorer Ladybug, who is by Olympic Glory, and Etonnez Moi, who also won for the Brandt team and Blichfeldt.
Recorder, a Galileo homebred of the Queen, carried the royal silks with distinction in his short career, winning the Acomb Stakes on his third and final start for William Haggas.
The nine-year-old is the first foal out of the Danehill Dancer mare Memory - the winner of the Albany and Cherry Hinton Stakes for Richard Hannon snr and Highclere - and a full-brother to Belmont Gold Cup winner Call To Mind and a three-part sibling to Stockholms Stora Pris scorer Learn By Heart.
Recorder stands at Montfort et Preaux for a fee of €4,000.
Marianachic, Jean-Claude Seroul's Authorized half-brother to last season's Prix Maurice de Gheest winner Marianafoot, kicked off the black type action when landing the Prix Francois Mathet in style, while last term's Prix Thomas Bryon victor Dreamflight came up with the goods in the Prix Omnium II.
Lady Bamford's son of Frankel holds French Classic entries and is the Prix de la Nonette winner and multiple top-level placed Dream Peace, a daughter of Dansili who has also produced the stakes-placed pair of Questionare (Galileo) and Herman Hesse (Frankel).
Pretty Tiger, a Group 2-winning son of Sea The Moon when winning the Prix Eugene Adam last July, added the Group 3 Prix Exbury to his three stakes successes previously. Bred by Chevotel de la Hauquerie, the colt is a half-brother to the Group 3-placed Pretty Boy.
