Coolmore line up star coverings for top fillies Magical and Fairyland
Pair head to the paddocks after the Breeders' Cup
The Breeders’ Cup meeting is set to be the swansong for two of Coolmore’s star fillies with multiple Group 1 winners Magical and Fairyland booked for dates with leading stallions in 2020.
Magical will be trainer Aidan O’Brien’s leading light at this year’s Breeders’ Cup with the four-time Group 1 winner heading for the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf on November 2, for which she is the 2-1 second favourite behind Sistercharlie.
Winner of the Irish Champion Stakes and Champion Stakes this season, Magical will be covered by Coolmore’s No Nay Never, last year’s leading first-season sire, upon her retirement.
O’Brien, speaking at a Breeders’ Cup press conference on Wednesday organised by the International Racing Bureau, revealed: “We had a meeting with the lads and we’ve decided she’s going to go to No Nay Never next year.
“She’s unbelievable and everyone can see what she’s done. Since she was two she's been competing in all the top races and has continued all the way along.
"She’s a special filly with a remarkable constitution and unbelievable mind. She’s a pleasure to have anything to do with - she’s a dream really.”
Magical will be joined in the paddocks next year by Fairyland, winner of the Cheveley Park last year before following up in the Flying Five this season.
She will be covered by Coolmore’s supersire Galileo, continuing the stud’s trend for sending fast mares to the champion stallion.
“She’s been a great filly and the plan for her is to go to Galileo next year,” said O’Brien.
“She’s run some great races. She loves fast ground and is a very fast filly. I couldn’t be happier with what she’s done this year.”
Fairyland is set to contest the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint, for which she is a 14-1 chance.
