John Gosden and Khalid Abdullah's Juddmonte combine forces once again to unleash Calyx, a son of Kingman, for his first start in this contest.

This is a pedigree that is full of horses to have carried Abdullah's silks with distinction, as he is out of the Group 3-winning Observatory mare Helleborine.

Perhaps the most eye-catching part of Calyx's page is that Helleborine is a sister to the Group 1-winning sprinter African Rose, later the dam of Group 3 scorer Fair Eva.

Under his third dam, Dewhurst Stakes hero Distant Music can be found.

Four-time Group 1 winner Kingman has yet to get off the mark as a stallion but he has had two place-getters from two runners to date, and it would be fitting if his owner-breeder were to provide him with a notable first.

Calyx faces eight rivals in the 6f contest including the Andrew Balding-trained Spirit Warning, a son of fellow freshman Charm Spirit.

Balding knows all about this colt's pedigree, having trained the half-brother Side Glance to win eight races, most notably the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes at Flemington in 2013.

The pair are both Kingsclere Stud homebreds out of the juvenile-winning Averti mare Averami, who is also the dam of the Group 3-placed Rawaki and the Grade 3-winning hurdler Taglietelle.

Charm Spirit, who is by Kingman's sire Invincible Spirit, has supplied three winners among his first two-year-olds.
