Never better than mid-division, not fluent 4 out, pushed along and no impression from 2 out (an inquiry was held into the running and riding; vet said that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities; jockey said his instructions were to get the gelding into a good rhythm, to jump well and to finish his race off better than it had done previously, he added that he was happy the way the gelding travelled early on, in what he felt was a slow early tempo, he continued to explain that the gelding made a bit of a mistake 4 out, after which he had to ask for an effort to get the gelding back on the bridle and thereafter jumped 3 out big, he further added that having made those mistakes he felt it was necessary to keep a hold of his head to ensure that he met the last two hurdles on the correct stride to avoid falling, he continued that the gelding had been outpaced from 3 out and in his opinion may benefit from a step up in trip; his explanations were noted) (op 5/1)
