Wolverhampton Placepot picks: Tom Collins has high hopes of landing a big pot

For all that Wolverhampton's card lacks quality, reasonable field sizes and a selection of highly competitive handicaps should result in a respectable Placepot payout.

An open 1m4f handicap (12.10) kicks off proceedings and topweight Desert Emperor, who won over this course and distance in mid-November, should see you through to the next race. There's no feeling worse than crashing out early in the Placepot, though, so Seagulls Nest is used as back-up.

Course form is crucial here and previous Wolverhampton winner Dylan's Lad, and the improving First Verse, are selected in leg two (12.40).

It's wise to bank on recent Lingfield winner Famous Star in the 1m1½f novice (1.10) as having three runners at your mercy in the following 0-65 handicap (1.40) could prove crucial. Recent scorer Hot Day is joined by three-year-olds Melakaz and Baby Sham in my perm.

Green Power finally took advantage of his falling mark at Kempton last month and shouldn't be overlooked off 6lb higher in the penultimate contest (2.10), while a first-time visor and perfect draw should see Bakersboy play a leading role.

Numerous tickets will crash out in the closing leg (2.40), but hopefully not this one as recent runners-up Luscifer and Ring Of Gold are joined by the unexposed Last Mission to end the perm.
