White Lake can build on potential and score overdue victory
Our Little Pony2pts
2.00 Beverley
Popsi and Our Little Pony were the first two home in a Redcar seller this month and look like the two to concentrate on here, with preference for the latter.
Popsi just about came out on top on that occasion but there are plenty of reasons to believe Richard Fahey’s filly will reverse the placings.
Our Little Pony was making her debut and that was evident when she gave away ground at the start and ran green, giving herself a mountain to climb.
She nearly pulled it off though, finishing strongly in the second half of the race to be beaten a short head and will be wiser for the experience.
Popsi may struggle to contain Our Little Pony if that one improves as expected but it wouldn’t be a big surprise if she confirmed the form.
The pair raced off levels last term but with Nathan Evans’ 3lb claim, Jo Hughes’s filly is 5lb better off which should at least keep things competitive.
White Lake1pt
3.50 Nottingham
White Lake may not have won since scoring on his juvenile debut for Luca Cumani at York back in 2014 but he remains a horse with potential.
Despite this being a 0-110 contest, there is a surprising lack of recent solid form on show and the five-year-old may be the one here most likely to be ahead of his mark.
He has only had three starts since joining Roger Varian at the beginning of last season and was thought to be Pattern class earlier in his career.
He may have been slightly disappointing when mid-division in a Listed handicap at York on his reappearance, but it was a competitive affair and he had excuses as he may have needed the run on ground softer than ideal.
Playful Sound2pts
4.20 Nottingham
Playful Sound looked an improved performer when winning a decent Newmarket handicap at the Guineas meeting on her reappearance and looks ready for the return to Listed company.
Sir Michael Stoute’s filly was a progressive three-year-old last term, winning her first three starts but was over the top when upped to Listed class at Newmarket last October.
That was not her true form, as her latest win suggests, and this doesn’t seem much more competitive by comparison and she looks like the one to beat.
Entsar is the main threat.
The profile of William Haggas’s four-year-old bears a similarity to that of Playful Sound, as she progressed through the lower grades last year before having a crack at Listed company at the back-end of the season.
She too came up short but there’s no reason she can’t win at this level at some point.
Dominating2pts
4.50 Nottingham
Dominating hasn’t been at his best in a couple of starts this season but he should show himself in a better light upped to 1m6f for the first time.
Mark Johnston’s three-year-old showed over trips around a mile as a juvenile that he might be worth following over longer distances this term with his stamina-laden pedigree.
Sent off favourite on his reappearance over 1m2f at Goodwood, he looked like tailing off at one stage but did well to plug on for sixth.
Unfortunately he was unable to build on that upped to 1m4f at York next time as the soft ground turned against him.
This represents a drop in class and he should find conditions more to his liking.
Plage Depampelonne is the danger.
