'We thought he'd finish third or fourth so the fact that he won bodes very well'
Harry Derham, assistant to Paul Nicholls, trainer of Clan Des Obeaux and Frodon
Clan Des Obeaux goes straight to Cheltenham. Obviously he was very good in the King George, and Paul thinks it's the right thing to go to Cheltenham fresh. It rained on the day of the Gold Cup last year, which went against him. We're going to ride him with a little more restraint this time. He's a year older, and Paul thinks he's a better horse now. Hopefully he'll go there with a really good chance. Frodon is also entered in the Gold Cup. He'll run on Saturday and then somewhere else in between.
Colin Tizzard, trainer of Lostintranslation, Native River and Elegant Escape
Lostintranslation is doing well [recently had his palate cauterised]. I don't think we can rush to run him so it'll be better to give him a racecourse gallop in the middle of next month and then on to the Gold Cup. We're hoping he'll go to Cheltenham nice and fresh. The palate is cauterised now so we're positive. Native River is in lovely form. He'll go to the Denman Chase next at Newbury and then on to the Gold Cup. Elegant Escape is fine after Chepstow [sixth in the Welsh National]. We'll try to run him in the Gold Cup. He probably won't have a prep race as we'll look to go to the National after Cheltenham.
Eddie O'Leary, racing manager of Gigginstown House Stud, owners of Death Duty, Delta Work, Road To Respect, Shattered Love, Alpha Des Obeaux and Balko Des Flos
Death Duty was going great at the beginning of the season – his hind joint was fine, thank God – only he got a kissing spine. We got that treated and he's back on track, but the Gold Cup entry is only a speculative one. He'll have to be out by the middle of next month before you could think about going for a Gold Cup. Hopefully we have some nice horses in there but Delta Work would be our number-one. He was very short heading into the Savills Chase and we thought he'd tip round and finish third or fourth so the fact that he won bodes very well. Road To Respect ran his heart out behind Delta Work, and he's a very honest horse who just wasn't the same after the Dublin Racing Festival last year after the ground was too quick. He'll go to the Irish Gold Cup next provided he gets his ground. Shattered Love has had her wind done since Tramore, Alpha Des Obeaux will go for the Bobbyjo and then on to the Grand National. We had the Kinloch Brae in mind for Balko Des Flos but he ran a temperature so we're not sure if he'll make that. We'll get him back on song before thinking about Cheltenham for him.
