Wednesday tipping: Racing Post experts reveal their best bets of the day

Handicappers' nap

Smokey Lane (5.45 Kempton)

Finished third off a 9lb higher mark over course and distance in February, takes a drop in grade this evening and is weighted to go well now reunited with Oisin Murphy.

Newmarket nap

Attainment (7.15 Kempton)

James Tate's chestnut returns to the all-weather after a decent third at Beverley last time. The three-year-old has since been leading the classy Hey Gaman in his work.
David Milnes

Eyecatcher

Sassie (8.15 Kempton)

Sassie met trouble-in-running on her reappearance at Goodwood, but had no such traffic problems last time when a good third. She could never quite get to the first two, but ran with plenty of credit and can produce something similar.

Irish angle

Dinons (4.20 Wexford)

A five-time winner over hurdles, the Gordon Elliott-trained six-year-old got off the mark over fences on his chasing debut at Killarney last month and can follow up against four rivals under Davy Russell.
Tony O'Hehir

Speed figures

Debawtry (12.30 Nottingham)

Produced a promising first run for new trainer when second at Thirsk last month and this lightly raced filly can gain compensation.
Dave Edwards

Spotlights nap

Moon King (2.35 Nottingham)

Has improved for the step up to 1m6f in winning two handicaps at Wetherby this season. Looks on a fair mark, 4lb higher than when defying a penalty last time, and there may well be more to come, so holds leading claims.
Richard Austen

Dark horse

Golden Apollo (8.00 Ripon)

On a long losing streak but often takes a couple of runs to reach peak fitness after a break and is now looking well handicapped. Tim Easterby's gelding shaped better than the bare result suggests last time out and could improve for this drop in grade.
Olly Eden

Must-have stat of the day

Trainer Alex Hales is 3-8 at Newton Abbot, improving to 3-4 when his runners are sent off under 10-1. Panko can improve his trainer's good record in the 3.00.
