'We see him as a Guineas colt' – key trainer quotes on the Newmarket showdown
Aidan O’Brien, trainer of Saxon Warrior, Gustav Klimt, US Navy Flag and Mendelssohn
We’re happy with how they’ve done over the winter and we’ll decide over the next week or ten days about trials and things like that. Saxon Warrior has done very well and we're happy with him. Gustav Klimt has done everything right but missed the second half of last year, while US Navy Flag is straightforward and seems in good shape. Mendelssohn goes to Dubai.
John Gosden, trainer of Roaring Lion, Emaraaty, Kings Shield and Without Parole
We see Roaring Lion as a Guineas horse and he's strengthened and done well over the winter. He worked nicely this morning and we plan to take him to the Newmarket Craven meeting, where he'll either run in the Craven Stakes itself or have a racecourse gallop. We know he handles the track as he won the Royal Lodge there last autumn before his good second in the Racing Post Trophy. Emaraaty worked nicely this morning but there's no decision which route we'll take with him. Kings Shield and Without Parole are both nice types but are not quite as forward.
Sir Michael [Stoute] is happy with Expert Eye and the plan is still the Guineas but there's no decision as to whether he'll have a run beforehand. He lost the race at the start in the Dewhurst and then was keen, which wasn't his running. We'll do what's right for the horse but it's still early days.
Mark Johnston, trainer of Elarqam and Cardsharp
We're very happy with Elarqam. He hasn't done as much as either Mister Baileys or Attraction, but he couldn't do any more than he has. He's done one piece of work already, which went very well, and he's going to gallop again this weekend before hopefully having two racecourse gallops prior to the Guineas. There's a question mark regarding Cardsharp getting the trip, and he'll probably run in a trial beforehand.
