Clement Legend, one of the few genuine stayers to have emerged from the lower ranks, can regain the winning thread in the 1m3f handicap (1.15) at Happy Valley.

The New Zealand-bred gelding started a spectacular climb through the classes, beginning in October 2018, that resulted in seven wins and a 50lb hike in the handicap. He is still very competitive off his current rating of 74.

As a five-year-old son of Cox Plate winner Ocean Park out of a Montjeu mare, the staying genes have clearly kicked in because Clement Legend is in a different league when tackling, by Hong Kong standards, extreme distances.

The John Moore-trained Tashidelek, with Zac Purton aboard, will have plenty of support but is still a maiden after 15 starts locally and Clement Legend holds the edge on him. Significantly, Karis Teetan renews his association with Clement Legend.

Old favourite Fat Turtle is tipped to land the 6f handicap (1.45), in which he takes on several sharp sprinters with tall reputations.

Amazing Star has been a revelation since joining trainer Jimmy Ting, easily winning his last three on the trot and rapidly progressing from Class 4 to Class 1. He has blistering early speed, so can be expected to lead despite drawing stall eight.

But there are others who can apply some pressure in-running, such as Country Star and back-in-form Gunnison, while Waldorf is a noted closer when the fractions are fast.

It could all be set up nicely for the consistent Fat Turtle, who loves the city track and can sit in behind the pace from stall four for Vincent Ho. He is the value in a competitive heat.

Ho also has an excellent chance of taking the other Class 1 handicap (12.45), over 1m4f aboard Fast Most Furious, who has not been out of the first four in his last nine starts. He is still measuring up despite the higher mark and with a good draw can go close again.
