US racing tips: Shane Ketteridge has two selections on Saturday night
Agitare
9.11pm Gulfstream Park
1pt each-way
Hozier
10.14pm Oaklawn Park
1pt each-way
Gulfstream Park plays host to a competitive stakes race card and my attention is turned to the ex-Irish trained Agitare, who takes his chance against a competitive field in the the H. Allen Jerkens Stakes over the 2m trip on the turf.
American horses are generally not bred for this kind of distance, especially on the turf, and two miles is a bit of a specialist distance in the States. It is always best to look for a horse who has won at a trip and Agitare fits that billing.
After being sent to Keri Brion from Jim Bolger in the Summer, this son of Teofilo made his American debut in a stakes contest over this trip at Far Hills in October and could not have been more impressive.
He drew away to win by a widening four-and-three-quarter-length margin whilst giving the impression that there could be much more to come. Although this will be tougher if he turns up in a similar mood he will go very well, as I doubt we have seen the best of him yet.
The aptly named Tinsel Stakes over 1m1f on the dirt is the feature at Oaklawn Park and is being billed as a match between Run Classic and Bal Harbour. There is value against them at the top of the market, however, in the shape of Hozier, who hit the board in a Grade 2 here last season.
This hardy four-year-old has some very good form in the book. He is a four-time winner who is at his best when able to stalk the pace, which he should be able to do here as he is drawn perfectly in stall two.
He also comes into this off the back of two determined victories, one of which over this trip, so it would not surprise should he upset the odds and provide an early Christmas cracker in the Tinsel.
