US Racing Tips: Shane Ketteridge has two Saturday selections at Keeneland
McKulick
22.16 Keeneland
2pts win
Beverly Park
22.48 Keeneland
1pt win
Keeneland’s autumn meeting continues with a ten-race card on Saturday, headlined by the $600,000 Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Stakes for three-year-old fillies.
Chad Brown holds a strong hand in this 1m1f contest with McKulick and Gina Romantica, and it is the former who can provide the New York-based trainer with back-to-back wins in this race.
Brown, who has been successful in three of the last four renewals, has a high-class daughter of Frankel in the form of McKulick. She has yet to finish out of the first three in seven starts and is already a Grade 1 winner having taken the Belmont Oaks Invitational in July.
The way she won that race was in the style of a very good filly. She beat the subsequent Saratoga Oaks winner and Charlie Appleby-trained With The Moonlight by a comfortable one and three quarter lengths whilst showing a tenacious attitude.
On her previous start, she landed the Grade 3 Jockey Club Oaks at Belmont At The Big A, so she comes into this in fine form. I expect her to win as it would take her nicely into the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf back here in three weeks.
The finale at Keeneland is an open looking starter allowance event, which features a field of 11 older horses doing battle over 6f.
The one I like is Norman Cash’s five-year-old Beverly Park, who is a three time winner at this course and comes into this in great form.
This is an admirable horse. He has won 21 races from 40 career starts with 14 of those being in this grade. I see no reason why he wouldn’t take all the beating again, especially given the fact he has won his last two races by a combined winning distance of four and half lengths.
