US Racing Tips: Shane Ketteridge has two Keeneland crackers on Saturday
Gunite
20.40 Keeneland Race 6
2pts win
Fingal’s Cave
22.16 Keeneland Race 9
1pt win
We are now two weeks away from the Breeders’ Cup at Keeneland and this weekend we see a potential winner on that card in Gunite, who is having his final prep run in the Perryville Stakes over seven furlongs on dirt.
Steve Asmussen’s colt is a son of the Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Gun Runner, who was also trained by Asmussen and owned by the same connections, and this is another exciting horse for the barn.
He has failed to hit the board only once in 11 starts and from those he has managed to pick up four stakes races, including the Grade 1 Hopeful Stakes.
That's always a feather in the cap and it's clear to see why he has achieved so much already in his career as his genuine attitude always gives him a chance.
This seven furlongs is his best trip – three of his five wins have been over that trip – and he comes into this in good form having recorded his highest speed figure when winning a black-type contest at Churchill Downs last month.
Gunite should win, which will then give connections a decision to make: head for the Sprint or the Dirt Mile back here in two weeks' time.
A field of nine three-year-old fillies go to post for the Grade 2 Lexus Raven Run Stakes over seven furlongs on dirt and I like the David Donk-trained daughter of Carpe Diem in stall five, Fingal’s Cave, who can make it five wins from five starts.
This is a nice filly. She won her first three starts in maiden and allowance company by a combined distance of 21¼ lengths, which came before her first stakes victory at Saratoga in August. That was her latest start.
We saw a different side of her there as she showed determination to win by half a length and I have no doubt she’s a Graded class filly.
