Trainer Jane Cibelli has her barn in red-hot form since the turn of the year, saddling 17 runners to victory from just 64 starters (26 per cent strike-rate).
Most of her scores have come at Gulfstream Park in southern Florida, but Cibelli makes the rare trip five hours north to Tampa Bay Downs to run Amelia's Wild Ride in the $9,000 claimer (8.30) over 6f.
Despite not being too far away, Cibelli tends to avoid entering her horses at Tampa and has had just one runner at the track since the meet began on July 1, 2019, so it has to be of serious interest that she is sending Amelia's Wild Ride on the journey.
The nine-year-old is in the late stages of her racing career but has proved a decent moneyspinner for connections with 13 victories from 58 starts, amassing a total of $686,170 in prize-money.
Despite her good win rate, Amelia's Wild Ride hasn't actually landed a race since January 1 last year, so there is a slight concern that she has lost the knack of finding the wire, but her speed figures since have been pretty consistent and the change in track and drop in trip could prove the catalysts to an overdue victory.
She lacked the early speed to get prominent on her outings in December and January at Gulfstream Park, but stayed on takingly from the rear on both occasions, which screamed that a longer trip was necessary.
Amelia's Wild Ride was stepped up in class to contest a $44,000 contest last time over the same trip but could never get into the race.
Cibelli has booked leading rider Antonio Gallardo, which is a plus, and while she may be pitched in here so that she gets claimed, current connections will be thankful to get one last win out of this old-timer.
Gallardo will be fancied to record another success aboard V K Legacy in the $10,350 maiden claimer (6.00) early on the Tampa card, but that runner is 0-11 in her career and has just looked extremely slow on her most recent outings.
It might be wise to take her on at the morning line prices, with All American Jewel catching the eye in opposition.
Trained by Juan Arriagada, All American Jewel is 0-8 all-time but has posted good enough performances on two of her last three starts to suggest she is able to go close here.
She was sent off at 20-1 three outings ago and was bumped at the start, but made good late progress over the mile trip to take a share of the prize-money, while she also filled the same third-place berth last time when flying late on.
That run was just a week ago and looked pretty decent form for the grade, so she is taken to go two places better now with Raul Mena aboard.
Racing is continuing over in Oklahoma at Will Rogers Downs and although it is fast becoming one of my frustrating tracks to tip at, I'm going to have extra interest in the feature $10,450 starter optional claimer (11.15) as the in-form Ed's Rocket looks a great bet if he can get to the front.
William Morey's gelding has won nine of 24 races and has early speed to burn. The five-year-old is in the form of his life, too, entering this race on the back of three successive victories in which he has made every yard of the running.
His draw in stall six is the sole concern as he might have to endure a trip two off the rail with pace on his inside, but if rider Alfredo Triana can get him out in the lead early, he will take a lot of pegging back.
