US expert Tom Collins sides with a well-drawn runner at Gulfstream on Saturday

Our Petunia
5.30 Tampa Bay Downs
2pts win

I'm The Captain Now
8.47 Gulfstream Park
1pt win

Dr Shane
10.20 Gulfstream Park
2pts each-way

A double-figure draw on the turf course at Gulfstream Park is very hard to overcome, no matter what the distance. Nine times out of ten you end up being pitched deep and lose plenty of ground as a consequence.

That's exactly what has happened to Dr Shane on his two outings at this track. Drawn in stall 11 of 13 on his penultimate outing, Dr Shane was forced forward by Paco Lopez and went through the first quarter in a quick 22.9 seconds over 7½f.

He still wasn't able to get to the front and had to race three-wide throughout, but Dr Shane showed his talent and class to overcome a tough trip and fight off his rivals to win by a neck in a decent allowance optional claimer worth $52,000.

Dr Shane was then stepped up in class and trip by trainer Danny Gargan here last time but drew gate 12 of 13 and wasn't helped by a slow start.

It was an uphill task from then on and Dr Shane, who is best when up behind the leaders, was forced to be held up last. He still put in a spirited bid rounding the bend, and entering the straight moved from 12th to seventh.

He only managed to pass one more rival down the stretch but caught the eye in behind given nothing went right.

Dr Shane has finally drawn well in stall four for the $48,000 allowance optional claimer (10.20), and is strongly fancied to get his head in front.

The horses drawn immediately around him are usually held up, so that should allow him an easy passage to go forward, with a rail sit behind likely leader Kroy looking on the cards.

Interestingly he is in for a $100,000 claim and if he comes home in front under rider Joe Bravo, someone will likely snap him up.

Another horse that could be switching barns after hitting the track is I'm The Captain Now, who runs for Barclay Tagg in the $19,000 claimer (8.47) earlier on the Gulfstream card.

This six-year-old has had his problems and has only been seen three times since October 2018, but looked back to something like his best on his most recent start over a slightly longer trip at this track in March.

I'm The Captain Now broke a tad slowly and was off the bridle in the first few strides that day, but made notable headway as they swung for home and despite being forced five-wide off the turn, was only beaten a neck at the wire.

He flew home, and they didn't go exceptionally quickly throughout the early or middle stages of the race, so with a better race setup he must have a huge chance of going one better.

This race represents a small drop in class for the six-year-old, who would walk this if he repeated the form of his Saratoga allowance win two years ago.

Jockeys Antonio Gallardo and Samy Camacho continue to fire in the winners at Tampa Bay Downs and I fancy leading track rider Gallardo to bag another winner thanks to Our Petunia in the opening $9,270 claimer (5.30).

A two-time winner from 11 starts, Our Petunia has found her grade in this level of claiming company and she won readily over slightly further than a mile on her penultimate outing thanks to a well-timed ride by Gallardo.

Put a line through her latest effort where she pulled hard in behind a slow pace and she should be favourite to win this.

Camacho is on Candy For All, who has won her last two starts, but her speed figures aren't as good as Our Petunia and this step up in grade could prove too much for her as she seeks a hat-trick.
