US expert Adrian Wall sides with an ex-Roger Charlton-trained filly at Tampa Bay

Awesome Ella
8.45 Gulfstream Park
2pts win

Fashion's Star
9.00 Tampa Bay
1pt win

Lady Noguez
11.19 Gulfstream Park
1pt win

We are treated to US action from Gulfstream Park and Tampa Bay Downs on Friday and hopefully this column will point you in the direction of three strong bets as I expect the top-class jockeys to come to the fore.

It is terrific to see Irad Ortiz back from a spell on the sidelines and his best chance of the night comes aboard Awesome Ella in the $25,830-to-the-winner maiden special weight (8.45).

A $120,000 purchase by William Meathe in April 2019, she finished runner-up behind Overjoyed at Del Mar in November and ran better than the bare result would suggest there a month later, sent off a well-backed favourite.

This looks like her easiest assignment and she should be freshened up after a nice break.

Irad Ortiz is operating at a healthy 27 per cent strike-rate since his return and Robert Hess had four winners from 13 runners here (31 per cent) in April, so everything looks ripe for a huge run.

My second tip of the night is another horse coming back from a break, a regally bred Sea The Stars filly by the name of Fashion's Star in the finale (9.00) at Tampa Bay Downs.

Antonio Gallardo is hot property around the Florida track, operating at a 24 per cent strike-rate around there since July 1, 2019, so it is always a positive when he is on your horse at this venue.

Although this filly is arriving here off the back of a 366-day break, she looked to have a huge future when running out an impressive winner at Newbury on her debut for Roger Charlton.

She disappointed on her second and latest start at Ascot and hasn't been seen on the track since. Clearly, she has had her problems but if any of that old ability remains she should be more than good enough to land a race of this nature.

Interestingly, trainer Shug McGaughey has had only 16 runners at this track since July 2019, but seven of them have won (41 per cent strike-rate) so he usually means business when he runs one at Tampa Bay.

Last but by no means least, we move on to the last race at Gulfstream Park (11.19) for my final tip of the night and I think Lady Noguez is too big a price to ignore.

I've already mentioned the great strike-rate Robert Hess has around here of late and the highly talented Tyler Gaffalione will ride this filly over a mile from gate nine.

This is her first run for the Hess stable and has been running with a lot of credit over this course and distance of late for former trainer Nicholas Gonzales, with form figures of 4423 around the oval track in 2020.

She is a hold-up runner, so will need a good pace up front to aim at. Nothing will be finishing faster and I expect the new trainer to bring out some extra improvement in her.
