US expert Adrian Wall hopes young Mario Fuentes can grab a winner at Gulfstream

Water Wizard
6.34 Gulfstream Park
1pt win

Dermot
8.11 Gulfstream Park
1pt win

Retro Street
10.47 Gulfstream Park
1pt win

We have a lovely ten-race card at Gulfstream Park to get stuck into on Thursday evening, and the first race of interest is the maiden claiming contest (6.34), with $11,970 going to the winner.

This race won't take a lot of winning and, although Cabrina may well be a worthy favourite, I will be taking her on with Water Wizard, a three-year-old Flashstorm filly trained by Angel Medina, who looks a winner in waiting.

She has finished an unlucky runner-up on her last two starts, staying on well at the finish after being left too much to do by jockey Mario Fuentes.

Should Fuentes make more advantage of her great speed from the gates and find her a nice position in midfield, she should have more than enough to mow down Cabrina in the closing stages.

The big betting race of the night (8.11) is a contest for the four-year-olds and upwards with a decent pot of $18,270 going to the winner and Katherine Ritvo's Dermot is the one who catches the eye.

This four-year-old son of Kitten's Joy travelled like a dream and displayed a nice turn of foot to win over 1m½f here in January under Tyler Gaffalione.

The horse moved from Brendan Walsh to the Ritvo yard after that run and although he hasn't gone close in two runs since, the front-running tactics employed last time didn't appear to suit, and he looks to have a good chance should he be allowed to slot in just behind the leaders.

Luca Panici has a good strike-rate on turf in the past 12 months, so he's a top jockey to have on board.

I couldn't go through a Gulfstream card without looking at the book of rides ridden by the star jockey Luis Saez, and he partners Retro Street who can end proceedings on a high for trainer Robert Hess in the 10.47.

This is the first time Saez will get the leg up on this runner and he is operating at 31 per cent on turf for the past 12 months and is always bang there at Gulfstream.

This filly was given a pretty soft time on her first outing for this trainer when last seen, which is understandable. The cobwebs will be blown away now and she should improve a good deal for that experience. She's a proven mile winner and conditions will suit.
