US expert Adrian Wall has three strong selections lined up for Gulfstream Park
Aerodynamic
6.00 Gulfstream Park
1pt win
Dizzy Sight
9.15 Gulfstream Park
1pt win
Drama In Dixie
9.46 Gulfstream Park
2pts win
The main attraction in the US on Thursday is a nice card at Gulfstream Park, where it certainly pays to have a good inside draw and some early speed.
One who fits the bill on both scores is Aerodynamic, who is drawn in stall one in the $13,230 claiming contest (6.00).
This four-year-old filly changed hands since we saw her last, moving from Todd Pletcher's stable over to the care of Amador Sanchez. This move came off the back of the filly landing a maiden claiming race over this course and distance when sent off a very strong 1-3 favourite.
As her price that day suggests it was a race she ought to have won, but I was particularly impressed with the manner of her victory, tracking the leader into the straight before being pushed into a commanding lead and then forging clear. She should take plenty of beating once again and interestingly the blinkers are reached for.
We have over a three-hour wait for our second runner of the night but hopefully the wait will be well worth it. I'm tipping Dizzy Sight to leave his rivals well out of sight in a 3yo+ claiming race with $13,860 to the winner (9.15).
Jockey Miguel Vasquez is in tremendous form in the last fortnight with six winners from his last 13 rides (46 per cent strike-rate) and, with an impressive strike-rate of 28 per cent on dirt over the last 12 months, having him on board is a massive advantage.
Trainer Don Swick has saddled only 20 runners in the past 12 months, resulting in one victory, but I reckon he must mean business today with Vasquez booked.
This four-year-old gelding is having his first run for the stable since leaving the George Arnold team. He is a proven dirt winner, having scored at Keeneland last October over 6½f. He did his best work very late on that day so the step up to the mile here is bound to be massively in his favour.
Last but by no means least is my bet of the night. The ultra-talented Tyler Gaffalione takes the ride on Drama In Dixie, who should take the world of beating in the $12,600-to-the-winner claiming contest at 9.46. The young star is operating at an incredible 58 per cent for the last two weeks (11 winners from 19 rides) and is always value for a few lengths.
Gaffalione was aboard this horse when they finished second to King Of Ranch over this course and distance in January. They lost nothing in defeat on that occasion, going down to a higher-rated horse who was better off at the weights.
He needs to bounce back from a lacklustre effort last time out but this looks an easier assignment. Trainer David Fawkes has an impressive 26 per cent strike-rate around this course.
